This video is a progression from the previous cone drill as now a ball is added to the exercise to make it more dynamic and volleyball game like. This forces the athletes to concentrate in new ways and use other skills to perform the exercise.

What is interesting is the technique they teach is the same as what Jeff Nygaard was teaching the USC men’s middle in the morning. Some of the verbal ques include the “Staggered Step” meaning you have one foot in-front of the other so you can move forward quickly.

It basically includes two hit balls, one hit from area 2 and one from area 4. The area 2 ball is the hard cross court hit while the area 4 is hit high at the players head.
