Bill Ferguson and USC Practice Team Breakout Sessions – Serve Receive Volleyball Drill. Bill added this drill into practice as the players were having problems standing up while moving backwards on serve receive. What this volleyball drill does is reinforce staying down, while focusing on creating an angle with your platform. Often when players move back they stand up and don’t focus on leaning forward creating an angle with their platform towards the target. When they do this their passes are not as accurate and will at times shank the ball.
This simple drill is also a great beginners volleyball drill that reinforces creating a good angle and staying down on the ball. Also it allows for a lot of reps in a very short time!
- Shoulders down
- Shuffle your feet
- Stay down
