Volleyball Warm-Up Indoor

Volleyball Warm-Up IndoorIn the game of volleyball warm ups for indoors are crucial to prevent injuries and prepare you to crush your opponent. Stretching and loosening up correctly prepares your body and mind for the next match. Warming up like all other volleyball skills is where with the right amount of work and a few drills everyone can be limber and loose on the court!

Hi, I’m David Fischer indoor girls coach. I played my indoor ball at Stanford and have played on the US National team at the Pan-Am games. I’ve played professionally on the beach for over 12 years. During this time I’ve coached at all levels both girls and boys.

In order to train for warming up whether as a player or coach, is that warming up requires knowledge of each part of your body and how to maximize its full potential. My video training and drill series below will show you methods I have developed and learned playing at the highest level to help you be ready from the very first serve.

All six of my volleyball warm-up for indoors are available to members of volleyball1on1.com.

Volleyball Warm-Up Indoor Explained

Volleyball Warm-Up Indoor – Walking
Sounds easy at first. Set the ball as you are walking from the end line to the net and back. Next is bumping the ball to your self as you walk. Next is using one arm, your left, your right, the back of your arm. Last and most interesting is overhead with one arm. This can be a tip, a pokey, a straight finger, a cobra, anything you can think of. Use these warmup everday and I encourage everyone to do so.

Volleyball Warm-Up Indoor – Short Court
This warm up drill is a lot more fun than running laps and doing pushups. Play a game one-one-one completely inside the ten foot line, using only overhead contacts. It’s ok to bump the first ball if you have to. The winner gets to serve by setting the ball overhand. This really gets your players used to overhand digs and passed so often used in today’s game.

Volleyball Warm-Up Indoor – Shoulder
Warming up your shoulder is important. This game is called catch and throw. Your shoulder gets warmed up better than just hitting balls to each other. Use the whole court 2-on-2 or 3-on-3. You throw the ball to the other team. They catch it then throw it from where the volleyball is caught. Players get competitive and have fun with it.

Volleyball Warm-Up Indoor – Vollis
This indoor warm-up was invented at the Santa Monica Pier and it’s called Vollis. Use the full court, starting with an underhand serve. Each side gets only one contact and it’s played 1-on1.

Volleyball Warm-Up Indoor – Triangle
This is one of my favorite warm up drills for volleyball that can be used any time at any practice and it wouln’t be wrong. You have a hitter, a digger and a setter. The hitter hits a downball to the digger, the digger passes to the setter, the setter sets back to the hitter. The objective for the players to get their feet to the ball no matter which postion they are in. Rotate to a new position after 10 repetitions.

Volleyball Warm-Up Indoor – Dynamic
A great new trend is to warm up without the volleyball. It’s called dynamic warmup and I think it’s a great thing for teams to use. My players demonstrate the ones we use and how it can use the whole body. Mentally you can concentrate on what you will focus on in the practice or game.
