Volleyball Tips For Beach

Volleyball Tips For BeachHow to be comfortable for volleyball on the beach involves more than a beach umbrella and comfy chair.

Hi, I’m Ed Ratledge AVP Pro and NCAA National champion. Comfort is more than the clothes you wear while playing or relaxing between games. It includes making sure you eat the correct foods, and like in yoga pay attention to your breathing on the court. These six videos give you more details on how to do all of this. For starters you can view the first of my six videos.

The other of the six videos in the series on volleyball tips for the beach are available to volleyball1on1.com members.

Pace -

Keep the pace of the game that best suits you. If you’re on a roll you want to keep the game moving. When you’re gassed after a long rally take some time to gather yourself.

Shorts and Tops -

When playing you don’t want a pair of shorts that bind and restrict your movement. Shorts made of a stretch material are best and can help reduce lower back pain. For tops many of the girls at my beach camps wear their club jerseys. The jerseys are of a wicking material to take the sweat away from your skin and keep you cooler.

Fluids -

For every game played I drink two bottles of water or gatorade for electrolyte replacement. After the game is over one bottle of water washes it all down. You sweat out more than you think and it’s important to keep your body hydrated.

Eat -

Obviously you need to during a tournament. Make sure to feed your brain as well as yoru muscles. Your brain runs on sugar so make sure to feed it with some sweets. One tip is to eat when your appetite is not there.

Breathing -

Like in yoga make sure your breathing is steady and not labored. A sign of dehydration is heavy breathing between points.

Social -

Volleyball is a small community. Make sure you are comfortable and make friends with as many people as possible. You never know when you will need a partner.

Being comfortable physically and socially will show in results on and off the court.

I hope you enjoy it, and remember, good comfort leads to better volleyball!
