The volleyball jump float serve, is a great skill that every good volleyball player should master if they want to stay competitive on the court. A strong jump float serve and other volleyball serving techniques can start off the entire engagement of a volleyball game in your team’s favor. However, a poorly executed jump float serve right off the bat can give your team a major disadvantage when it comes time to getting that all too important sideout.

Jump Float Serve – Strategies
The jump float serve is a valuable strategy for these reasons. First, players don’t see it in practice a lot and it throws them off during the game. Coaches hit a million standing float serves but not the jump floater or machines serve a million serves with topspin. Yet very few few serves are jump floaters. Because it throws passers off their game you can serve the ball in the seams or into a cluster.
Jump Float Serve – Miniscule Difference
What is that miniscule difference? It’s the valve on the ball. When placed at the back of the ball it makes the ball verberate even more causing the ball to move more. The weight of the stem is your advantage. By putting the stem to the right of the ball, a jump float serve will tend to go to the right. Put the stem on the left and the ball with go to the left.
Jump Float Serve – Demonstration
Here I show you the classic 3 step approach, and to hit the ball flat and on the way up. Another thing to do is serve the ball at the passer’s nose. This is not to be mean, it’s to throw off their depth perception so they can’t see the ball as well as it knuckles toward them.
