Hi, I’m David Fischer, 12 year AVP Pro and 12 year volleyball coach and my goal is to help you pass perfect!
As every volleyball player knows, the most fundamental skill of the game is passing. While playing indoor college volleyball at Stanford University and the last 12 years on the AVP tour I have been able to study first hand from some of the best passers in the world what they do to pass perfectly every time. This videos series will include tools and drills I picked up along my volleyball journey as a player and coach!
This video series is great for players and coaches of all levels. It will offer new ways to teach common skills as well as discuss how to successfully integrate new overhand passing rules for your own and team success. This video series will start from the basic hand position, footwork, stance and build into specific exercises that can help improve this most fundamental of skills.
All six of these volleyball passing how to videos are available to members of volleyball1on1.com.
Volleyball Passing Technique – Fundamentals and Basics
In this video myslef and one of my players demonstrate passing fundamentals. This includes, foot positioning, your stance, your arms in a neutral ready position for a overhand or underhand pass, and details on how to connect your hands on contact, including how Misty May connects her hands verses how Canyon Cemans connects his hands for passing.
Volleyball Passing Technique – Moving Your Feet
Never get aced as a passer. Here I show you a successful technique he picked up to avoid this. Next focus on passing every ball from your centre line. This forces you to move your feet and get behind the ball.
Volleyball Passing Technique – Being Solid
You want to be solid in your platform and here one of my players shows how she reinforced this for herself. Namely having your platform face the target, being solid and holding the finish. As a coach this is a fun drill and will help your players see passing in a completely new light!
Volleyball Passing Technique – Overhand Passing
Now to show the details of the overhand passing correctly. Technique includes starting form a neutral position just like a normal pass, then move to the ball, facing your target, wrapping your hands around the ball and pushing it to where you would like it to go.
Volleyball Passing Technique – Passing High
How do you handle a hard serve you can’t get your hands up on? The simplest way is to dip your shoulder and move your feet. Which way do you move your feet? Straight back as one of my better passers Andi will show you.
Volleyball Passing Technique – Passing Low
Now the flip side with getting to a low ball with a roll, dive and sprawl. All three ways start with the yoru weight forward and making sure your body hits the floor but the ball does not.
