Hi, I’m Gary Sato, current USA under 18 volleyball boys head coach as well as the under 21 women’s sand coach for the PAN AM games. I am also the current assistant USA men’s national team volleyball coach, preparing the team for the 2012 Olympic games in London and am a former USA Olympic gold medal coach in 1988 and bronze medal coach in 1992. In 1985 I was the most valuable coach for the world cup and am here today to teach you some valuable aspects of volleyball in these videos.
The Overhand Pass Explained
In the old days everything had to be a forearm pass. These days all you see are teams coming out with jump serves and jump floats. That’s why I recommend the overhand pass technique by stepping up into the court and bat the ball with your hands instead of setting it. This will keep the ball from going through your fingers and losing a point. In the overhand pass you want to grab the ball and bat it up to your target with stiff hands. We have to spend more time with our float serves to take it with their hands to get more practice because float serves are whats knocking teams off the net. Keep on practicing this and getting repetitions in so you are ready to start using this technique in games.
