Volleyball progression drills are perhaps one of the best and most underutilized drills by coaches to rapidly accelerate their players improvement. Brazilian’s are coaches to the best beach volleyball teams in the world and have known this for a long time.
In this video sequence of seven drills you’ll see how each drill starts easy and builds upon itself. The result is a high number of touches on the ball in a very short time. The first video targets passing, and setting.

Volleyball Progression Drill Sequence – Video 1
- Coach middle, player middle,
- Coach toss to the player, players passes middle, then moves left, (Position 5 / Left Side Court),
- Coach Spikes it at player in position 5,
- Players passes it to himself,
- Player sets the coach, player movers to the right, (Position 6 / Middle of Court),
- Coach hits the ball at the player in position 6,
- Player passes moves to the right, (Position 1 / Right Side of Court),
- Coach hits the ball at player in position 1,
- Player passes it to himself,
- Player sets the coach, player moves to the left, (Position 6 / Middle of Court)
- Coach hits the ball at player in position 6,
- Player passes and moves left to position 5,
The player goes to each side three times totaling seventeen contacts in rapid succession passing and setting the ball. Good for endurance, and touches on the ball.
