Hi, I’m Priscilla Lima, an eleven plus year volleyball coach. Communicating on the beach means putting everything out in the open. Discussing everything on and off the court always makes you better. That means being positive and helping each other with honest assessments of your play and what is affecting performance on the court. These six videos give you more details on how to do all of this.

Volleyball Communication – Strategy
Before, during and after the game you always have to talk. Before, strategize. During, make sure your partner is doing well. After, tell them “good job” and do a recap of the match. It’s how much of a chatterbox you are, but what you say.
Volleyball Communication – Serve Receive
To avoid the hubby-wife talk to your partner as to who has the middle ball on the serve. As demonstrated with my partner, whoever is cross court from the server gets the middle ball. Good volleyball communication like this before the play ensures you won’t get aced and you’ll win the point.
Volleyball Communication – Attacking
When you set what do you do to help your partner? Take your eye off the set and look at the defense. Find the open court and call it out to your partner so they can focus on the ball and crush it for the kill.
Volleyball Communication – Honesty
One Priscilla’s long time partners Angela Lewis talks about how they communicate. Angela says, “First be honest and positive. Priscilla makes it easy on always being upbeat.” Other things are you may be tired and you have to tell your partner that so you can make adjustments.
Volleyball Communication – Chalk Board
Strategy, you have to talk about it. Your coach is not always with you on the beach so you have to work with each other. Draw a court in the sand and work out plays and tendencies with each other. It’s fun too!
Volleyball Communication – Off the Court
Priscilla continues her conversation with Angela on how a partnership is like a relationship. You can’t just take a weekend off. You have to make sure your training schedules work with your off court schedules. Believe it or not, we do more than play and train for pro beach volleyball.
