NCAA Volleyball

The NCAA is the governing body for men’s and women’s collegiate athletics in the United States.

The women’s teams far outnumber the men’s teams and are divided into three different divisions. DivI, DivII and DivIII. Each division is comprised of multiple conferences with schools of similar enrollment sizes competing in each conference. Each division then hosts a national championship tournament mostly made up of the champions from each conference.

The men’s teams number far fewer. DivI and DivII divisions are lumped together with a national championship tournament comprised of teams by invitation only. Mostly teams from the west coast receive preferred treatment and more invitations than the rest of the country. Lately teams away from the west coast have won national titles such as Penn State, Lewis University and Ohio State.

Men’s DivIII teams have a separate national championship made up of champions from DivIII conferences, much like the women’s national championships.
