Beach Volleyball Blocking Line – Basics
Video 1 explains blocking line is a very specific basic block. Affront the hitters outside shoulder, get low and jump straight up pressing straight over the net blocking line and seam.
Beach Volleyball Blocking Line – Tool
In video 2 I show that when a hitter turns the line and tools you it’s the worst thing that can happen to a blocker. To avoid getting tooled press the outside hand to the line and keep the inside hand in the seam.
Beach Volleyball Blocking Line – Dive
Video 3 shows the dive on the line that was made famous by Mike Whitmarsh. Show the hitter the line then take it away with your hips balanced.
Beach Volleyball Blocking Line – Advanced
Video 4 shows how this is a very advanced block. Show the line by stepping into the angle, then at the last second fake out the hitter and dive into the line.

Video 5 explains that when the hitter see’s you’ve blocked line and is shooting over the block, wait and take a tiny step back to block the ball and throw it down.
Beach Volleyball Blocking Line – Dig
The last video shows the line call means that side of the court is your responsibility. It’s very hard to defend the pokey or ‘The Steino’. You can defend anything one body length away from the net. Land balanced to execute the move by playing the volleyball low to the ground and give yourself more time.
