Beach volleyball blocking for beginners, line may seem like a strange concept. By blocking the line it takes an area away from the hitter and channels the ball to the defender in the cross court. By covering this specific part of the net limits where the hitter can go and makes you a roofing machine.
Hi, I’m Adriano Ticao. Volleyball Coach to fellow Brazilians and AVP players Priscilla Lima and Tatiana Minello along with many stars on the FIVB tour.
Blocking the line like all other volleyball skills whether as a player or coach requires you line up correctly in front of the hitter. My video training and drill series shows the best techniques and training methods I have developed coaching at the highest level.
Beach Volleyball Blocking for Beginners, Line Overview
Position – First you have to get and stay in the best position against the hitter. Line up with your body centered against your opponents shoulder.
Observe – Next, take your eye off the hitter and see where the set is going. This gives you time to be where the set is going and be there before the hitter is.
Prepare – Once you are there be in your ready position. Make your movements short and efficient so you can save your energy to explode up on the block.
Hands – Make sure your hands are positioned correctly. No matter how high you jump if your hands are in the right place you can block anything. I’ll show you the right and wrong way to do this.
Timing – Timing is everything. Here you’ll learn how to be at the top of your jump when the hitter contacts the ball. This allows for maximum penetration of the net so you can literally throw the ball back down.
Summary – Here is where you put all of these steps into action, forcing the hitter into being roofed or hitting the ball straight your partner defending in the cross court.
