In beach volleyball blocking and pulling, being able to effectively pull of the net and get into a good blocking position is essential. For the vast majority of us out there who are not 6’10″ and able to stand at the net and block any shot that comes our way, we have to be able to master the footwork necessary to be able to quickly pull off the net and be in a ready position to defend our half of the court.

Beach Volleyball Blocking and Pulling, What Exactly Is That?
When I say beach volleyball blocking and pulling I am simply talking about blocking an incoming volleyball that is farther away from the net. Pulling off the net is unique to beach volleyball, because in the case of indoor volleyball you have people already covering the position farther down the court. This is not the case in beach volleyball. Beach volleyball requires that you and your partner play a variety of different positions all at once…hitter, blocker and setter…all of these positions must be rolled into one. So it is crucial that you learn how to pull off the net quickly and effectively so you are in the best position to block an incoming hit. Important things to remember when beach volleyball blocking and pulling:
- Be Efficient – you don’t have a lot of time to allow for any slip ups in your blocking footwork when blocking the line.
- Be Ready – be in the stopped and ready position when the attacker hits the ball, this is the only way you are going to be able to gain control of the situation. You must have your beach volleyball blocking and pulling footwork down and be ready to block that ball as soon as it comes your way.
- Start Low, Stay Low – when you block in beach volleyball you wanna keep you’re footing wide, make yourself big so you can gain more area to block with. Try to keep your power movements to a minimum, make sure you don’t waste too much energy getting to where you need to be.
Beach Volleyball Blocking and Pulling is a very important aspect of effectively being one half of a beach volleyball team, and if you follow these easy footwork steps to pulling off the net that I’ve just shown you, you should be a very successful and effective beach volleyball blocking and pulling.
